For restaurant owners

Everything this site does,
in plain English.

Ember & Salt is a demo built by The Sites. You can try these features on this page right now, and where something only runs on a live site, it says so. All of it can be set up on your own restaurant's site, with your menu, your hours and your brand. Switch on Show features at the top to see each one in place.

  1. 01

    Your full menu, online

Your customers: Every dish with a description and price, plus photos of the ones you want to show off, grouped the way you'd group them on a printed menu.

You: On a live site, change prices, add specials or hide a dish yourself from a simple admin screen. No reprinting.

  2. 02

    Dietary filters

Your customers: One tap shows only vegetarian, vegan, gluten free or dairy free dishes.

You: Fewer phone calls asking what someone can eat, and fewer mistakes.

  3. 03

    Choices and add-ons

Your customers: Pick a sauce, how the steak is cooked, a size, or extras. Prices update as they choose.

You: Orders arrive with the details spelled out, so the kitchen has fewer reasons to call back.

  4. 04

    Allergen info

Your customers: Each dish lists its allergens before it goes in the cart.

You: Clear allergen information helps customers choose safely. You supply the details and keep them accurate.

  5. 05

    Sold out and time-limited dishes

Your customers: Sold-out dishes are greyed out. Evening-only dishes can only be picked up from 5pm.

You: Run out of the flounder? On a live site, flip a switch and it stops selling.

  6. 06

    A cart that remembers

Your customers: Close the tab and come back later: the order is still there.

    You: Fewer abandoned orders.

  7. 07

    Suggested extras

Your customers: The cart suggests a side, a dessert or a drink they haven't added yet.

You: A gentle prompt that can lift the average order.

  8. 08

    Pickup time picker

Your customers: Choose today or a later day, in 15-minute slots, based on your real opening hours and prep time.

You: You set the hours and how long the kitchen needs. The site only offers times you can actually meet.

  9. 09

    Busy-time limits

Your customers: Popular times show how many spots are left and close when full.

You: Cap how many orders land in each 15 minutes, to help keep the kitchen from being swamped on a Friday night.

  10. 10

    Discount codes

Your customers: Enter a code at checkout. Try FIRSTFIRE for 10% off orders over $30.

You: Run promotions for first orders, quiet nights or local events. On a live site, sales reports show which ones work.

  11. 11

    Online payment

Your customers: This demo offers pay at the counter or a simulated online payment, with no card charged. A live site takes real cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

You: Payments go through Stripe or Square into your bank account, with their usual card fees. No delivery app taking a cut of the order.

  12. 12

    Live order tracker

Your customers: After ordering they get an order number and a page that updates from Received to Ready.

You: Fewer "is it ready yet?" calls and less crowding at the counter.

  13. 13

    Kitchen screen

Your customers: Nothing to see for customers, but it's what makes everything fast.

You: New orders pop up with a sound on a tablet or a small screen in the kitchen. Staff tap Start cooking and Mark ready, and the customer's tracker updates. A live site can also print dockets.

  14. 14

    Receipts with GST

Your customers: Every order shows an itemised receipt with GST and your ABN.

You: An itemised record of every online order, with GST shown, for your bookkeeper.

  15. 15

    Order again in one tap

Your customers: Regulars can repeat their last order instantly.

You: Makes coming back easier than opening a delivery app.

  16. 16

    Closed-hours handling

Your customers: Outside opening hours the site says so, and lets people order ahead for when you open.

You: You still take orders while the doors are shut.

  17. 17

    Built for Google and phones

Your customers: Fast to load, easy to use one-handed on a phone.

You: Your menu, hours and location are marked up for Google, which helps you show up when people search nearby.

  18. 18

    No commission on orders

Your customers: They order straight from you.

You: Delivery apps take a cut of every order. With your own site there's no commission: you pay for the site and the usual card fees on online payments, and keep the rest.

Also available on a live site

  • Text message when the order is ready
  • Email receipts and order confirmations
  • An admin area to edit the menu, prices, photos and hours
  • Staff logins and a pause-orders switch for busy nights
  • Sales reports and order history you can export
  • A printed docket for every order, from a small kitchen printer
